First Demonstration of New Smartphone Technology For Dual Isolated Roots of Trust

Rivetz , a leader in decentralized cybersecurity, today announced it will demonstrate its latest innovation in blockchain-based mobile security at Mobile World Congress Americas. The solution, entitled Dual Roots of Trust, leverages protections from both the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) and mobile carrier SIMs. The project is the result of a collaboration between Rivetz and Telefonica, which was announced earlier this year.

The Rivetz solution implements robust protection for private keys and the creation of secure messages for IoT, Blockchain and cloud services. The Dual Roots of Trust solution assures protection of the private keys even if one of the systems is compromised. The Rivetz-enabled apps generate and cryptographically distribute the private key between the two roots – the TEE and the SIM.

By combining the power of the mobile carrier global infrastructure and the advanced security of the TEE already built into millions of devices, Dual Roots of Trust delivers built-in security both from mobile carriers and device manufacturers, assuring that users are in control of their private keys. Decentralized protection of keys puts the owner in control. The technology protects consumers, mobile carriers, manufacturers and enterprises alike.

For consumers, Dual Roots of Trust ensures users’ digital assets are securely protected in the handset, while providing an additional point of security control through the carrier SIM. In addition, the value of mobile carriers’ service offerings is greatly enhanced by the ability to deny access to protected apps if a user’s mobile device is compromised or lost – and quickly and easily restore service if the mobile device is found.

Finally, as employees increasingly use their own devices for use at work, enterprises can exercise greater control over sensitive corporate information accessed from personal devices. Employees may use company apps and access data, but Dual Roots of Trust gives enterprises the power to revoke access if an employee is no longer associated with the company.

“One of the most critical issues we face today is finding a balance between security and usability,” said Steven Sprague, CEO of Rivetz. “In partnership with Telefónica, we are proud to provide a seamless, built-in solution for decentralized mobile security.”

Rivetz and representatives from Telefónica’s cybersecurity unit, Eleven Paths, will be on hand to answer questions about and demonstrate the Dual Roots of Trust technology at Mobile World Congress Americas, Booth W.119.

About Rivetz

Rivetz technology and services aim to provide a safer and easier-to-use model for all users to protect their digital assets using hardware-based trusted execution technology. The device plays a critical role in automating security and enabling the controls that users need to produce high assurance data and benefit from modern services. Rivetz leverages state-of-the-art cybersecurity tools to develop a modern model for users and their devices to interact with services on the Internet. They were selected for Telecom Council ‘s prestigious Innovation Showcase Class of 2018. Find out more at www.rivetz.com and follow Rivetz on Facebook , Twitter , YouTube and Telegram .

One cannot deny the fact that security tokens have been getting a lot of attention lately. Not only attention, but many of the experts say that security tokens might just be the next big thing to look forward to. Most of the people who know one thing or two about cryptocurrencies would definitely know about utility tokens. Basically, these are a way of value exchange digitally which are used in a cryptocurrency network. One of these utility tokens happen to be security tokens.

What Are Security Tokens?

Security tokens is a new concept and that is the reason why it might take time to spread around the market. It is absolutely true that these have been implemented by several companies in North America and other parts of the world earlier but most people do not really know about them. Security tokens are unique in its own way, being backed by real-world assets such as a real estate ownership, commodities and even company stocks . If the security tokens are backed by the company stocks, it even might provide the holders with the rights to vote and the rights to dividend, as per the rules and regulations .

ICOs ecosystem

ICOs were used a lot in 2017 for funding blockchain organisations. Basically, they were in a boom in the previous year. Yet, many did not get the idea of it or even the exact meaning of it. Initial coin offering is just another form of crowd funding which helped and still helps many of the startups to get over the old and traditional seed investment .

Number of ICOs being offered was really good, even though most of the people think them to scams. It is true that some of them become extremely problematic with time but that is a really negligible percentage of the total number of ICOs offered. The thing is, most of these utility tokens offered are securities, which in turn, violates the security laws in the United States.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Types Of ICOs

Mainly, there are two types of ICOs – security tokens and utility tokens . The security tokens are the ones which are backed by none other than external and tradable assets . Big companies need tokens to represent the shares of company stock and that is exactly when the security tokens come into play. They grant these companies with the ability to do so, which is the main advantage.

If a company or an investor is actually looking for gaining any sort of profit from tokens such as revenues, dividends or upward price movements over the time, it is a security. The main thing to distinguish security tokens from other types of tokens is the main motive of the investor to buy it, as already mentioned.

It is really difficult for a person to understand the reasons behind every investment, at one go. Over time, the reasons may even change. One has to be sure about the uses of the tokens. If the token can be used for buying, suppose, a streaming service or whatsoever, then it falls under a different category. If the token is bought only for selling it later to gain profit, it falls under another category.

Polymath – first ever security token

Polymath, on the other hand, is the official ethereum platform for security tokens which has a lot of faith on these. They are found on creating the first ever security token standard of cryptocurrency, which is called the ST-20 . This was a genuine need for every investor since ICO scams were filling up the market. This thing would really protect the investors from certain kinds of ICO scams happening around the cryptocurrency space.

Trevor Koverko, who is the CEO of polymath, said that security tokens will save Crypto in the coming time . This was addressed in a technology festival in Toronto, this week. The hottest topic in the whole discussion was nothing but tokenized dividends. The tokenized assets have a lot of potential and are definitely the future of capital markets.

Polymath even said that they are absolutely looking forward towards many startups launching security tokens through its own blockchain marketplace , which is a great thing. Lot of conjectures are running around the market regarding the security tokens and definitely the excitement is on a different level, this time.

Koverko said that the security tokens are not about the cypherpunk movement, by any means. All that matters to them is obeying the rules and giving better things everyday to the people . He believes that this new hype about the security tokens is really exciting and they doubled the market for security tokens, in just few nights

0x Has Partnered With Harbor To Give Security Tokens A Push

0x is a protocol which allows the decentralized trading of tokens. It has recently partnered with Harbor which is yet another compliance protocol backed by none other than the former PayPal COO, David Sacks . These big names were the real reason for them gaining trust so rapidly. The main motive of 0x is to create a connection between the buyers and sellers. Tokenizing the private securities was actually a challenge and that has been made easier for issues by Harbor. Harbor helps abiding by the rules and regulations which makes the process much easier.

The liquidity of the security tokens is being talked about because dividing and transferring the traditional investments, like private shares, would become much easier due to the great liquidity security tokens would offer. The trading protocol of 0x is really secure as well and there is nothing one should worry about, at all.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Why Security Tokens Are Hyped?

Security tokens would be really helpful for both institutional as well as retail investors because they ensure much more liquidity . Recording and transferring assets using a blockchain based service would be the main reason for better transparency as well as a better form of keeping records. Without a single doubt, this is a step forward in the financial infrastructure.

Will Warren, CEO of 0x, believes that in the coming 5 years, accessing the highly regulated securities would no longer be a problem. This is because the security tokens are going to take over and a much more open system would be awarded to people. Security token tech stack is what’s needed.

As cryptocurrency technology continues to evolve, it’s now more important than ever to ensure your storage medium is efficient, secure, and easy to use. Hardware wallets, for example, have become a popular choice for storing large amounts of currency; while desktop or online wallets must constantly adapt to the risk of malware, keyloggers, or sophisticated phishing techniques, a dedicated physical wallet can be worth its weight in gold.

Two of the most popular hardware wallets on the market today come courtesy of Trezor and Ledger. Below, we’ll compare the two products, and give a few reasons why the discerning cryptocurrency user should strongly consider investing in a hardware wallet.

Trezor and Ledger

Both wallets come from well-established companies with a proven track record of security. Like virtually any hardware wallet, these devices record coin data on the blockchain without requiring the use of a desktop or online environment. The physical nature of these wallets mean users do not need to employ the same counter-theft precautions as software-based wallets require, and are accessed using a physical PIN. Like software wallets, however, both Trezor and Ledger‘s physical wallets can be restored via “seed” words, meaning loss or destruction of the wallet does not means loss of your cryptocurrency. Either wallet can be treated much like a real-life wallet, and by employing the same common-sense precautions you would with physical currency, the risk of loss due to theft is substantially reduced.

Trezor Wallet

Trezor is an offline-only, highly-secure cold storage device. However, it also provides great flexibility and connectivity should the user need to exchange currency. Trezor is a highly-respected manufacturer of hardware wallets in the crypto community, and the Trezor wallet is remarkably small, roughly the size of a small mp3 player, and constructed from plastic. Trezor’s wallet connects via USB, does not require charging, and is compatible with Windows, MacOS, and virtually any Linux distro, as well as Android devices. Several browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox are available also.

Inside the box, the wallet is accompanied by a hanging strap, USB cable, user manual card, and two nifty recovery seed cards for storing your seed information.

Ledger Wallet

Ledger likewise maintains a small form factor, roughly the size of an average USB flash drive. Also a well-respected wallet manufacturer, Ledger is compatible with Windows and MacOS, though the manufacturer does not explicitly mention dedicated Linux support. The Ledger is also compatible with Chrome OS, and like Trezor, several browser extension downloads are also available.

Unlike Trezor, however, Ledger enjoys a sleek form factor and durable steel construction for heightened resistance to drops and damage. Both devices include small display screens, though Ledger’s screen is slightly smaller than the display on the Trezor (a requirement for Ledger’s sleek form-factor).

Like Trezor, Ledger includes a USB cable, instruction card, and seed recovery card. In addition, Ledger also ships with a handy keychain and lanyard for portability.

Ledge offers user’s a way to verify the integrity of their hardware wallet, which is also a nice touch.

User Interface

The Trezor wallet features a simple, clean interface, making it a snap to quickly view transactions. The menu on the top of the screen allows swapping through different currency types on the fly, and all boxes and menus are neatly labeled.

Likewise, the Ledger features a clean, minimalist interface will easy-to-read labels and menus. Both wallets allow you to monitor any of your cryptocurrency types on the same screen, as well as transacting in any currency type. Both boast a well-designed, user-friendly interface.

Trezor can store an enormous selection of cryptocurrencies, and the manufacturers are constantly adding support for new currencies. That being said, Trezor does not fully support all currencies, though the list is always growing. Trezor does provide full support, however, for virtually all popular coins, listed in the comparison below. For Dropbox users, <g class="gr_ gr_7 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="7" data-gr-id="7">Trezor’s</g> interface can also automatically sync your transaction information via Dropbox, a feature Ledger lacks. Unlike Ledger, Trezor also supports master password <g class="gr_ gr_9 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep gr-progress sel" id="9" data-gr-id="9">administration,</g> and boasts a slightly more robust firmware than Ledger’s more limited offerings.

Ledger, on the other hand, boasts full support for several additional currencies. It does this through the use of <g class="gr_ gr_41 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="41" data-gr-id="41">Chrome based</g> apps, which may be deprecated sometime in the future. The Ledger apps are much simpler to use than the Trezor interfaces, however, can be confusing when using the Bitcoin wallet, due to confusion around whether to use Segwit compatibility or not.

Both devices are always adding new features and currency support. For users with very diverse portfolios, it may be worthwhile to use both wallets.

Ease of Use

Both devices feature a quick setup process out of the box. For either, the user will first set up a pin code to access the device. The user is allowed three attempts at entering the correct pin; after three failed attempts, the device will automatically wipe all data on the device. In the event of a full data-wipe, recovery seeds can be used to restore the wallet data. Your seed is not displayed on the device screen, ensuring that any would-be thieves must be able to enter the correct PIN number within three tries.

Both devices feature two small scrolling buttons, used to navigate menus or select entries. No data can be accessed without a connection to a computer and the proper PIN code entry.

While the Trezor has a slight advantage in ease-of-use due to Its larger display, both devices are extremely simple to use with clear menus and easy entry of numbers. If you’re on the fence deciding between the two, it would be better to base your decision of the form-factor and currency support of the device, as both are relatively even in terms of usability.

Which is the Right Wallet for You?

Both devices are virtually identical in terms of usability, interface clarity, and transaction (send/receive) capability. That being said, Trezor is slightly more expensive: while Ledger can frequently be found for around $60 USD, Trezor typically runs closer to $100. While both wallets are constantly upgrading support for new currencies, at the moment, Ledger takes the win with a greater array of fully supported currencies. On the other hand, users with a smaller portfolio of currencies may enjoy Trezor’s more robust set of firmware features.

Ultimately, it’s difficult to label one as better than the other. Both are highly secure, well-made products from reputable companies, with a minimal difference in price. In either case, Trezor or Ledger will both grant the user a well-designed interface, unmatched cryptocurrency storage security, and support for a wide variety of currencies. The user’s decision should boil down to which device is more appealing in construction, and most importantly, which offers the best OS and currency support for your intended use.

It is safe to say now that Bitcoin and the Blockchain technology are here to stay. It is very likely that in the near future we will heavily rely on them to store and exchange value; we are confident that many other applications will come up from this groundbreaking invention. In short, the Crypto revolution is to us now what the Internet represented in the early 2000’s: a huge promise to transform our lives in ways we could not fully comprehend at the time.

The buzz around the Crypto industry brings around a flood of information full of enthusiasm since it advances the conversation on the development of digital economy. However, it seldom helps investors choose among the different features and technicalities that exist on the exchange market. Should one prioritize a high-level security by using a decentralized Exchange, or is it better to entrust a third-party for the sake of high liquidity and considerable cutbacks on delays?

To pinpoint the very reason why Bitcoin seduces so many, we must recall the impact that its decentralized, “trustless” system made. The peer-to-peer technology relies solely on the Internet, thus eliminating the need for an intermediary, but because Centralized platforms allow higher trade volumes and shorter delays for trades, DEXs are being overlooked even though they offer a greater level of security. We always believed that crypto traders should not be forced to choose between liquidity, low-latency and safety.

This is where Blockchain.io comes into play.

Meet a new generation of Cryptocurrency Exchanges: combining the best of DEX and CEX features for a brand-new trading experience

At Blockchain.io, we tackled the challenge of providing our community with a centralized Exchange platform that also offers what is referred to as “Decentralized Settlement.” This feature allows our users to benefit from a high-performance centralized orderbook without giving up the control of their crypto-assets. It means that Blockchain.io’s users are protected against counterparty risk and have the best guarantee that their coins will remain under their control thanks to “cross-chain atomic swaps” technology. This focus on security is inherited from our parent company Paymium, where 98% of our customers’ crypto-assets have been in cold storage since 2013.

Decentralized and Centralized exchange platforms each have their own perks, depending on the user’s preferences and priorities. Still, it is not always simple for investors—especially newcomers—to decide which type of platform to start with. Throughout the building process of Blockchain.io, we maintained a simple, albeit essential objective to provide the best of both worlds by not skimping on safety, trade volume and speed.

At Blockchain.io, we are aware big changes are ahead and we want to be part of the wave that will engulf and transform the way we envision markets—should it be innovation-wise, or in terms of financial inclusion. All along, we wanted to provide our community with a sleek, user-friendly platform that could also help democratize the technology by simplifying the process for newcomers. This is precisely what the Internet of Value stands for.

Compliance as a differentiator: Encouraging trade while ensuring trust

Blockchain.io aims to become the most reliable crypto-assets marketplace in Europe, where crypto-currencies and tokens will be traded safely among institutional and individual users. Our platform is specifically designed for ready-to-trade investors. The MVP is already live and the interface will be fully operational shortly after the ICO’s end. Users will be able to start trading select tokens at 0.1% fees for both makers and takers, and even less for BCIO tokens holders.

On top of that, Blockchain.io will also provide ICO consulting services—guiding projects from start to finish to ensure their success. Moreover, the handpicked tokens featured on our listing after a thorough audit will provide our investors with a wide range of solid projects.

Last but not least, the Blockchain.io ICO is also registered with the SEC for US accredited investors and has been presented to France’s “Autorité des Marchés Financiers.”

So, join in! We look forward to experiencing the Internet of Value with you.
